An Overview
Covering nine counties in Central Florida, the Diocese of Orlando oversees 140+ locations, including parishes, churches, schools, cemeteries, and shrines. As the Senior Director of Shared Services at the diocese’s Financial Services Secretariat, Debbie Lougheed provides shared accounting services to diocesan entities, managing financial tasks and processes across the entire diocese.
Challenge
The Financial Services Secretariat and Lougheed, in her capacity as Senior Director of Shared Services, were facing several challenges with the financial management of the diocese’s parish, church, school, cemetery, and shrine locations. Overuse of manual processes and Excel were common across such locations.
As a result, consolidating data at the Secretariat was taking months. Many of the pastors charged with the financial management of their locations had little to no experience with traditional finance, making it even more difficult for the Secretariat to encourage best practices and coach for performance.
